Since 2011, Transcal’s Rail division has developed a stellar reputation as a leading supplier to the rail sector – working with industry leaders including First Group, Alstom, and Stadler on a wide range of projects.
Operating in harmony with the company’s Engineering division, Transcal Rail is able to provide a comprehensive solution for clients within the industry; providing world-class design, installation, engineering, manufacturing, and aftercare services for fully-compliant, durable, and luxurious seating
.
From structures to soft trim, Transcal offers endless possibilities for its clients on the tracks, keeping passengers comfortable and satisfying the most stringent compliance laws.
At 12 kilograms per passenger place, Transcal’s Aerolite seat is one of the lightest rail seats on the market. Manufactured with aerospace aluminium, the seat was designed to satisfy the industry’s need for a slimmer and more durable option that does not sacrifice comfort – complying with the stringent demands of the rail industry.
Aerolite has been subjected to a full 3D crash simulation using a seat pitch of 780mm. Test results confirm full compliance to GM/RT2100 Issue 5 for both injury and integrity, with an impressive HIC figure of below 60.
Easy-to-install with Transcal’s quick fit trim system, an unskilled operator can swap out the trim in under 30 seconds using a standard rail key.
With the first service conducted in 2021, First Group’s LUMO train offers customers a quicker and cheaper ticket between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh Waverley.
Working in harmony with the Engineering division, Transcal Rail created and trimmed 1,970 seats, each with an underslung USB and 3-pin socket, a meal tray, and reading light in the seat back – in LUMO Blue. Take a video tour of the LUMO carriage beneath the image gallery below.
Transcal also worked with First Group to refurbish their long-standing Pendolino trains with a more durable and luxurious solution. 25,550 seats were delivered, each featuring a USB port and plug socket, with an adapted meal tray to increase seat space and comfort for the customer, and dual armrests.
